After four dedicated years leading the club, Sophie Townsend is passing the Chairman role to Mark Whitehouse. This transition not only signifies a change in leadership but also ensures the continuation of the community-driven spirit that has been at the club’s core since its establishment.
As Sophie hands over the reins, she reflects on her time with gratitude and warmth. Meanwhile, the club is eager to benefit from Mark's extensive experience and deep knowledge as our longest-serving coach.
Celebrating Sophie's Impact
Sophie has dedicated a remarkable eight years to Sankey Strikers, first as an enthusiastic parent and then as Chair. "Making this decision was challenging, but my family's evolving dynamics mean I can’t dedicate the time the club deserves," Sophie explained. During her leadership, the club not only witnessed a 25% increase in participation but also saw improvements like upgraded facilities, which have greatly benefited players and families alike.
A Bright Future with Mark
Mark Whitehouse is no stranger to Sankey Strikers. With years of experience as both a coach and a mentor, he brings a wealth of knowledge that is critical for this transition. As Sophie noted, “Mark understands the club’s commitment and its culture, which is essential for carrying on the legacy we’ve built.”
Even after stepping down, Sophie remains involved. She plans to support Mark and the committee, ensuring continuity during this transition. This ongoing collaboration is vital for maintaining stability as the club moves forward.
Sophie Townsend's Full Statement
After 4 fantastic years as Chair of our wonderful club Sankey Strikers JFC and another 4 prior as an enthusiastic parent, I have sadly decided to step down from the role at the end of the season and hand over to Mark Whitehouse.
It hasn't been an easy decision but logistical factors and the changing dynamics of my family have meant that I am not able to give the time and attention to the club that it needs and deserves.
I plan to remain part of the overall committee and will continue to play a role and support Mark where needed.
It has been an absolute pleasure to be involved to the degree I have been, in the club.
To watch the growth, the passion and the success.. it really has been part of my soul.
We have an ever growing team of incredible coaches and committee members and with Mark at the helm, I am confident the club will continue to go from strength to strength.
All my love and best wishes to everyone.
Sophie Townsend
